Vinyl stickers vs decals: is there a difference?

There’s no real difference between vinyl decals and vinyl stickers. The words are often used interchangeably. Some people use “decal” for larger designs, but both terms refer to the same printed vinyl with a sticky back. You can choose the exact size and shape when placing your order.

What’s the difference between stickers and labels?

The main difference is how they’re cut.

Stickers are individually cut, which makes them great for handing out or adding to packages. Labels are printed on rolls or sheets, which is ideal for applying lots of them quickly, either by hand or with a machine.

Labels are faster to peel, so if you’re branding a high volume of products, vinyl labels may be the better choice. Both can be printed on any of our vinyl materials.

How sticky are vinyl stickers?

Vinyl stickers use a pressure-sensitive, medium-strength adhesive. Once you press them down, they stay securely in place. Just make sure the surface is clean, dry, and smooth for the best grip.

If you want to remove them, just lift an edge and peel them off slowly. They won’t leave sticky residue behind.

Are vinyl stickers waterproof?

Yes, they are. The material we use is naturally waterproof. On top of that, we add a glossy laminate that protects your sticker from water, scratches, and sunlight. So your design stays bright and clear, even if it gets wet or used outdoors.

They are 100% dishwasher-safe as well. We recommend hand-washing to extend their life, but the occasional dishwasher cycle won’t do harm.

Can vinyl stickers be used outdoors?

Yes, they can be used outdoors. Our vinyl stickers are UV-resistant and laminated to handle rain, sunlight, and everyday wear. They’ll stay bright and secure for up to 4 years outdoors and even longer indoors. Perfect for windows, cars, signs, or any surface exposed to the elements.

What surfaces do they stick to?

If you need extra sticking power for hard-to-adhere surfaces like wood or coated metal, contact us before ordering. We can use a stronger adhesive if needed.

Can you tell vinyl stickers apart from other materials?

It depends on what you’re comparing them to. Vinyl stickers have a smooth, premium finish and are more durable than uncoated paper stickers. Vinyl and eco-friendly vinyl may feel similar, so the best way to know is to request a sample or ask us directly.

Artwork guidelines

For the best results, upload high-resolution artwork with a transparent background (if needed) and clearly defined edges.

• File types: Vector files like SVG, PDF, or AI are ideal. We also accept high-quality PNG or JPEG.
• Resolution: 300 DPI at actual size gives the sharpest print.
• Bleed & safe area: Add 2 mm bleed and keep key details 2 mm inside the cut line.
• Colors: We print in CMYK. RGB files will be converted, so colors may shift slightly.
• White ink: Available for clear, holographic, glitter, and mirror stickers if you want solid colors.

How to apply vinyl stickers

1. Clean the surface and let it dry.
2. Peel off the backing from one edge.
3. Press the sticker down from the center outward.
4. Smooth out bubbles with a card.
5. Let it set for 24 hours before washing or heavy use.
