Step-by-step: how to apply a large die cut sticker

Follow these steps to apply your sticker cleanly, with no bubbles, wrinkles, or misalignment.

Step 1: Clean the surface

Start by cleaning the surface with rubbing alcohol or mild soap and water. Avoid using glass cleaners like Windex because they can leave a residue that prevents the adhesive from sticking properly.

Even if the surface looks clean, oils, dust, and invisible grime can weaken the bond. Make sure everything is completely dry before moving on.

Step 2: Position and tape the sticker

Place your sticker where you want it. Use a ruler or tape measure to make sure it’s level. Once it’s in the right spot, put a strip of masking tape down the middle to hold it in place. This creates a hinge that lets you apply one side at a time while keeping the placement accurate.

Step 3: Peel and cut the backing (half)

Step 6: Remove the transfer sheet

If your sticker has a transfer sheet, peel it off slowly and carefully. Curl it back as you remove it, keeping it low and close to the surface. If any part of the sticker isn’t sticking properly, go back with the squeegee and press again.

Step 7: Final smoothing

Go over the entire sticker again with your squeegee or card. Look for any trapped air and push it out towards the edges. If there’s a stubborn bubble that won’t go away, you can pop it with a small pin and press the air out gently.
