Introducing static clings - Everything you need to know
We've launched static clings – a new type of sticker or label that sticks using static only! What?!
In this blog, we'll explain what a static cling is, how it works, and how you can get the best results possible.
Static clings look like this:

What is static cling?
Static clings, also known as static cling vinyls, are plastic stickers that don’t use glue. They stick to smooth, flat surfaces like glass using only static. The surface of the static cling is so smooth that when you push the air out, it acts like a suction cup, causing your label to stick.
What are static clings made of?
We make static clings from a soft, transparent plastic film that can be printed in full color, including white ink.
There are several plastic options available, but we only offer static clings made from PVC.

Here’s what each layer of a static cling looks like:
- Your custom design, printed with the latest digital technology for vibrant color and detail.
- A clear PVC film, nearly invisible, that forms the cling base.
- Backing paper, which makes the clings easy to peel and apply.
How to get the best results
To get the best performance from your static clings, apply them only to smooth, flat, non-porous surfaces. A non-porous surface doesn’t allow air or liquid to pass through, meaning there are no tiny holes that would interfere with the cling.
Glass is ideal, which is why static clings are commonly used for shop windows and cars.
They’ll also work on metal or painted surfaces – but only if those surfaces are completely smooth.

How to use static clings
Static clings work best when applied to smooth, flat, non-porous surfaces like glass. Common uses include:
- Decorating shop windows – great for seasonal promotions or temporary ads
- Car window clings for memberships, societies, or permits
- Temporary branding on rental vans or commercial vehicles

Is static cling dangerous?
Not at all.
People often think of unpleasant shocks when they hear the word “static,” but that doesn’t apply here. These stickers don’t build up electric charge – they just use a smooth plastic film to cling to surfaces like a suction cup.
