Why car window stickers need a different print setup
Window stickers are printed differently than stickers for painted panels because glass is transparent. Stickers meant for the inside of the window are printed in reverse with front adhesive, so the adhesive sits on the front of the design and the sticker reads correctly from outside the vehicle. This is what protects it from rain, road debris, and car washes since it sits behind the glass.
Stickers meant for the outside use standard adhesive and go straight onto the exterior. That's the better call when you want maximum visibility on tinted glass, or need something up quickly for a short promotion.
Which window is best for your sticker

The rear windshield gives the most space, so it works well for logos and larger graphics meant to be seen from a distance. Rear side windows suit contact details, social handles, and club logos without taking over the look of the car. Quarter windows are best kept to small, bold graphics like racing numbers or simple decals, since there's little room for detail.
Designing for tinted glass
Dark tint changes how a sticker looks, often making colors read as flatter or less vibrant than they do on screen.
Adding white ink behind your artwork stops the tint from showing through and keeps colors looking as intended, especially on darker windows. It's the first thing we check when proofing a design for glass: whether it needs white ink to hold up against the surface it's going on, not just how it looks against a plain background.
Bold colors and simpler shapes generally hold up better on tint than fine gradients or small text.
Choosing the right sticker size
Measure the flat area of the window, not the full pane, since most car windows curve toward the edges. A small margin around your design usually gets a cleaner fit. Smaller sizes suit permits and side windows, medium sizes work for logos and contact info, and larger graphics make the most of a rear windshield.
FAQs
What's the difference between front adhesive and standard adhesive?
Front adhesive stickers go on the inside of the glass and are viewed from outside. Standard adhesive stickers go directly on the outside surface.
Will window stickers work on tinted glass?
Yes. White ink behind the artwork keeps colors visible against the tint.
Can I still see through the window?
That depends on the size of the sticker. Smaller designs leave most of the glass clear, larger solid ones will block more light.
Will my sticker leave residue when removed?
Vinyl window stickers usually come off cleanly. Any leftover adhesive can be removed with an automotive adhesive remover.
Which artwork file should I upload?
Vector files like AI, EPS, or PDF give the sharpest print, though high-res PNGs work well too.
